For the longest time, game consoles have been available in dark and neutral colors that appeal to males which are understandably the primary target market of these portable game console gadgets.  But just recently, about a year ago, efforts to expand or at least activate the market scope of game console usage to female gamers have been seriously taken by these manufacturers.

More than a year ago, Nintendo, the pioneer in handheld game console released the sleeker and slimmer version of the Nintendo DS – the Nintendo DS Lite with nine available colours.  Among these colours, the Pink Nintendo DS version is believed to have gained more attention that the other colours as it once have been a hard-to-find item particularly during the Christmas season after its release last year.   

The clamshell dual screen design is very similar to the oldest Nintendo game console- the game and watch.  But unlike the game and watch which only has one game to offer, the DS can fit 2 types of Nintendo game formats as it has 2 slots, one for the DS format and one that can also read the Gameboy Advance game formats.  And unlike its predecessors, the best feature of the DS remains to be its touch screen capability which makes gaming a lot more interactive than using the usual joysticks.  But what makes the Pink version an instant hit among girls in their pre-teenage years is its radiant pink color which in a way amplifies a girl’s sense of self and femininity.
